Key Issues and Policies

Addressing the Housing Crisis

  • Housing Targets: Target of 60,000 homes per annum for 25 years, utilising modern construction methods (modular homes).
  • Affordable Housing: advocate for more affordable homes, ensuring everyone has a place to call home.
  • Tenants Rights: strengthen renter protections, increase RTB powers for both landlords and tenants and campaign for lower taxes to bring more landlords into the market.
  • Sustainable Development: ensure all developments include plans for schools, shops, public transport access and green areas.
  • Planning Reforms: relax planning laws to convert derelict sites and vacant spaces above city centre shops into homes, revitalising Dublin city centre, similar to Seville and Paris.

Enhancing Public Services

  • Disability Services: expand services for people with disabilities, ensuring access to healthcare, education, employment and public spaces. We need more investment in day residential and respite care, more personal assistant hours and reducing waiting times for assessment of all needs.
  • Education: address the shortage of special needs assistance ((SNA‘s), especially for students with autism and provide more specialised training. Every child deserves a chance to thrive.

Improve Local Infrastructure

  • Public Transport: I will strive to improve transport by increasing bus, train and tram frequency, reducing delays and ensuring full accessibility. Prioritise affordability and better connections between urban and suburban areas.
  • Community Facilities: upgrade community centres, parks and recreational areas. Increase the number of refuse bins in busy areas.
  • Flood Prevention: implement effective flood relief measures to protect homes and businesses around Dublin Bay.

Supporting Health

  • Mental Health Services: expand access to mental health support as Ireland is one of the highest rates of mental illness in Europe (18.5% of the population).
  • Awareness campaign: promote mental health awareness and fight stigma nearly half of those affected don’t seek help.
  • Youth programs: develop programs to address youth mental health challenges as one and four young people in Ireland experience anxiety or depression.
  • More funding and support for Beaumont Hospital, St. Francis Hospice and St. Joseph’s Hospital, Raheny.
  • Implement all aspects of the dementia strategy.
  • Transparency and accountability is urgently needed rebalance of spending director towards dealing with the unacceptable waiting list for children with life threatening conditions such as scoliosis

Child Poverty

  • With 230,000 children living in poverty. I strongly support a second tier of child benefit for low income families to reduce child poverty rates.

Immigration

  • I want more dignified, proactive approach to immigration, focusing on dialogue between communities and government.
  • We need a structured sustainable plan that balances immigration and addresses the lack of investment in critical infrastructure and housing.
  • There should be zero tolerance of racism.

Promoting the Irish Language

  • “Is fearr Gaeilge bhriste, ná Béarla cliste”.
  • Advocate for more Gaelscoileanna to meet demand, as more parents want their children to be educated in Irish. Early immersion fosters language skills and pride in our cultural heritage.

Protecting Local Businesses

  • Small businesses are vital to a thriving local community.
  • I intend to launch a “Shop Local” campaign to stimulate the local economy thus creating jobs.

Climate and Sustainability

  • Increase our offshore renewable energy: in conjunction with the production of green hydrogen, Ireland has immense capabilities to not only provide green hydrogen for our own use but also to sell it to a growing EU market, creating much-needed revenue for the State.

Protect Dublin Bay from Pollution

  • Substantial investment is urgently required to update the Ringsend Treatment Plant facilities.
  • Pollution in Dublin Bay must be addressed as a matter of urgency. Remember our bay is probably Dublin‘s greatest natural resource, few cities have the sea so close to the city centre.
  • Support the expansion of oyster farms, as filter feeders oysters help soak up toxins and bacteria in the water.
  • Motion agreed by DCC to honour the pioneering environmental work of Sean Dublin Bay Loftus by erecting a statue in his memory on the Clontarf promenade. Sean worked tirelessly to prevent Dublin port’s plan to infill 52 acres. This project will kindly be part-funded by his friends in Dublin Baywatch and will likely begin by 2027.

Need for an Elected Lord Mayor

  • I will forward proposals for an elected Lord Mayor for Dublin with executive powers and an annual budget.
  • The purpose of this proposal is to clean up our streets and restore pride in our city. I cannot count the number of my friends that no longer go into the city centre because of its threatening atmosphere!
  • Adding extra Gardaí to trouble spots.
  • We want our city back before it’s gone forever!
  • We need to address the issues of visible gangs and drug dealers loitering in North Dublin’s inner city with immediate effect!
